TEACHING

Dr. Yan Lu teachs the following courses at Western Michigan University:

BIOS 2300 Cell Biology
This is a sophomore-level comprehensive course covering the fundamental principles of cell biology, with an emphasis on structure, composition and function and cells, organelles, and membranes.

BIOS 3190 Plant Physiology
This is a junior-level course designed to familiarize students with biological processes occurring in plants, including transport and translocation of water and solutes, biochemistry and metabolism, and growth and development.

BIOS 4980 Readings in Biological Sciences
This is a senior-level reading course for students to understand a specifc topic in Biological Sciences, improve writing skills, and enhance communication skills. Reading topics include: assembly and importance of iron-sulfur clusters in plants; technology, applications, and lessons of algal biofuels; DNA barcoding of invasive plant species: applications and challenges.

BIOS 5970 Plant Biotechnology and Metabolic Engineering

This is a senior/graduate-level course designed for students to understand, evaluate, and communicate commonly used and cutting edge biotechnologies in plant sciences and incorporate knowledge of these technologies in the their writing of research proposals.

BIOS 5970 Topics in Plant Physiology
This is a senior-level Topics-in-Biological-Sciences course designed for students to develop a strong understanding of basic physiological functions in plants and demonstrate the ability to summarize and critique plant physiology-related journal articles and the ability to write feasible research proposals.

BIOS 6140 Plant Physiology

This is a graduate-level Plant Physiology course designed for students to develop a strong understanding of basic physiological functions in plants and demonstrate the ability to summarize and critique plant physiology-related journal articles and the ability to write feasible research proposals.
